Example
Input
example.com
Output
✅ The SSL certificate is installed correctly and the HTTPS connection succeeded HTTP 200 · 177ms
After attempting an HTTPS connection to the domain, a successful handshake with a trusted SSL certificate shows the response status code (HTTP 200) and the response time. The values above are an illustrative example; actual results depend on the server's state.
What the checks mean
Connects to the domain over HTTPS and inspects the certificate.
| Check | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Validity | Imminent expiry — browsers block expired certificates |
| Domain match | SAN/CN must match the host being visited |
| Trusted issuer | A trusted CA chain — self-signed triggers a warning |
| Chain completeness | Missing intermediates can break some clients |
FAQ
- Does it show details like the expiry date or certificate chain?
- No. This is a basic check based on whether the connection succeeds. For expiry date and chain details, use the SSL Certificate Viewer tool alongside this one.
- What does it mean if the check fails?
- It could be caused by an expired or mismatched certificate, the server being down, DNS issues, and more. Use the error message to narrow down the cause.
- Is the domain I enter stored?
- No. It simply attempts a connection immediately for each request.
- Expiry is near — now what?
- Renew with your CA. Let's Encrypt certs last 90 days, so auto-renewal (certbot) is the norm.
- How far does a *.example.com wildcard reach?
- One subdomain level: a.example.com works, a.b.example.com does not.
